D3.7 Handbook for know-how on LCMW chains

This document provides an overview of the steps from the identification of the biomass potential from landscape conservation and maintenance work (LCMW) as an opportunity for energy generation, to the description of the value chain considered for the pilot experiences in the greenGain model regions along with the extracted main conclusions. The deliverable covers the most important parameters that should be considered to assess the feasibility to develop a value chain based on biomass from landscape conservation and maintenance work including the selection of the most suitable conversion technologies and continuous optimization of all included aspects.

D4.3 Business models of most economic conversion pathways

This document addresses business opportunities arising from landscape management activities. In the first case, specialized subcontracting to produce wood chips and in the second case, application of grass in an existing wet-biogas plants were investigated.

D5.5 Follow-up report of the pilot experiences

Pilot experiences have been performed in each model region of the four project countries (Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Spain) targeting the most promising LCMW biomass types at the local level. This document is a report on the observed, gathered and analysed information.

D6.4 Strategy paper for EU policy makers

This strategy paper demonstrates chances and perspectives of the biomass originating from landscape conversion and maintenance work (LCMW) and provides recommendations/measures for responsible policy makerson how to foster this type of biomass.

D4.1 Project report on the use of LCMW material in Europe

Report on the state of the art of the occurrence and use of LCMW material for energy consumption in Europe and examples of best practice

D5.1 Interim LCMW materials assessment and utilisation pathways: templates, models and status quo

This deliverable describes for every project country the dedicated pilot region(s) in terms of geography, extent, population and economic activity. The existing LCMW types in these regions and their current utilisation was determined in a status quo assessment presented in this document as well. Further, the main biomass consumers in the areas of interest were identified and described. Finally, the deliverable elaborates the applied approach to detect the specific stakeholders of relevance for the utilisation of LCMW biomass and presents them for every pilot region.

D5.2 Report on resource and sustainability assessment and description of pilot experiences utilisation pathways for model regions

In the present document the LCMWs for the seven greenGain model regions have been object of analysis including: the categorisation and selection of LCMWs of actual relevance for the territory, the assessment of the theoretical and sustainable LCMW biomass potentials, the selection of the most promising pathways to supply the LCMW biomass to the local biomass consumers, and the conclusions per demo region. This report starts from LCMW types described in the status quo, and the resource and consumers analysis leads to understand better the opportunities, as well as gaps and challenges to be faced in future. This scope is the base for the pilot experiences programming (see planning in D5.3).

D5.3 Planning of the pilot experiences

Pilot experiences will be used as baseline for developing work plans and define feasible alternatives for a LCMW supply chain implementation, gaining practical experience on the operation and planning.
In the present document the planning of the pilot experiences implemented in the model regions are described including information regarding the actors involved and its role, description of the feedstock, description of the operations to be carried out, identification of the challenges to overcome, timeline foreseen for each operation, description of the machinery used and expected key results. These data compilation aims to contribute to improve the coordination between local or national authorities and stakeholders, identify the constraints or limitations that could arose during the implementation of a large scale LCMW supply chain, dissemination of results reached, definition of the sectors/actors interested, etc.

D5.4 Final LCMW materials assessment and utilization pathways for model regions

This document provides an overview of the most suitable conversion technologies for LCMW biomass utilisation including the anaerobic digestion, combustion but also pelletization, torrefaction, hydrothermal carbonisation and pyrolysis. The implementation of the pilot experiences has provided input data allowing to assess the results provided by the biomass assessment, consumers assessment and most suitable pathways previously identified in the project.
